Vulnerability mapping for COVID-19 in Addis Ababa

This project is financed by Vital Strategies inc. The project aims in defining COVID-19 vulnerability in Addis Ababa at the community, individual, and setting levels disaggregated to risk to acquire infection, risk for hospitalization, and risk for death. This project aims to deliver: • Undertake COVID-19 risk mapping exercise at individual, community and setting levels following identifying the important indices through a webbased platform. • COVID 19 vulnerability desk review report/epidemiologic data analysis report with indices list • VRAM-tool for groups (settings and communities) and individuals and VRAM report on Infection, hospitalization and mortality for vulnerable setting/ Woreda/sub city and individuals • Protection strategy to COVID-19 vulnerable population • Strategy for NCD/hypertension screening and referral linkage • Preparation of Scale up plan/strategy to other regions of the country.

COVID-19 behavioral change risk communication in Addis Ababa (RCCE)

This project is financed by Resolve to Save Lives and aimed at generating evidence on COVID-19 related risk communication and technical assistance to the city administration to bring about a behavioral change and ultimately better control of the pandemic. COVID-19 technical assistance and capacity building was provided to Addis Ababa City Administration Health Bureau. Through this project, the company delivered: Multiple evidence generated through review/ analysis of printed, audio and social media materials. Based on these, COVID-19 RCCE implantation strategy is developed for the city. School peer education guideline, Community conversation guideline, CoVID-19 message mapping and development guideline, and COVID-19 risk communication quality assurance guideline) were among the major deliverables of the project TV spot, Radio spot, and Posters on key interventional massages were produced and broadcasted via selected mass media on the bases of the findings.

Assessment of disposal system of used masks and PPE at three industrial parks (Bole Lemmi, Hawassa, Kombolcha)

To evaluate the practices of waste disposal of used masks and PPEs in three industrial parks across the country where the COVID19 pandemic resulted in unprecedented rise in usage of these materials Expected outcomes Recommendations on applicable ways to reuse used textile and medical face masks for other purposes Procedures on how to use and dispose face masks and PPEs in the most available suitable way in textile and garment working areas Raining to waste disposal workers in the three parks on safe waste disposal methods Nearby community engagement and awareness building training on safe disposal of used masks and PPEs

Plastic Waste Value Chain Assessment and Awareness for Healthcare Waste Handlers, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

This project is financed by GIZ. The purpose of this project is to provide direction for the better management of plastic waste produced as a result of medical care as well as provide value chain management system for the sustainable recycling system through assessment of gap in the current activities in order to decrease the environmental and social impact of plastic waste and address the technical and attitudinal challenges of waste handlers at healthcare facilities related with COVID-19 through training.

The major deliverable of this project can be outlines as:
    Conducted assessment on the health care waste management practices, and their value chain analysis
    Develop and provide interventional recommendations to improve the health care waste management practice, and enhance the value chain of waste recycling experiences.
